Basketball is a 5v5 game which as 4 quarters. Each quarter contains 10min. With a 15min break at halftime. Each team has to have 5 players on the court at the start of the match with 7 players on the bench.
Basketball started in 1891. it was created by James Naismith. basketball was created in Springfield, Massachusetts.
The Rules of Basketball
basketball has a number of fouls that can be committed by the player on the court. he referee will call the foul and tell the player what kind of foul he/she has committed.
- Personal Foul– A personal foul is committed by one player fouling another player. For example too much contact on the court against two players, this will lead the referee in blowing his whistle and stopping the game, to call a foul. after the foul is called the team that was fouled will receive the ball. To continue the game.
- Flagrant foul– This is when a player has fouled another player in a violent way. Leading to the officials believing it’s not a legitimate way to directly play the ball within the rules on the court.
- The Basket/Rim has to be 10 feet tall.
- Intentional foul. Is when a player makes physical contact with another player with no effort to still the ball. For example (slapping the players upper body).
Violations
- Walking/Traveling. This is when a player takes more than 2 steps without dribbling meaning that the player is travelling. the referee will blow this whistle call out ‘traveling/travel’ and will give the ball to the other team.
- Double dribble. This is when a player will dribble the ball with two hands at the same time. If this is seen in a game the referee will stop the game and call the violation.
- Back Court. this is when a player passes the mid point of the court and comes back from the way he/she came from. By having one foot over the line will mean that the player has done a backcourt violation.
Scoring system.
There are 3 way to score a basketball.
1 The ball inside the 3 point line will count as 2 points, also this will be the same with in the paint.
2 Shooting the ball behind the 3 point line will lead in the person scoring 3 points for his team.
3 The last way a person could score is by gaining a shooting foul. The player will receive 2 or 3 free throws depending if he was fouled inside the 3 point line or outside. if the player shoots a 2 misses and gets fouled he will be rewarded with 2 free throws if he makes the shot and gets fouled they will count the points and will reward him with 1 free throw. however if the player gets fouled outside the 3 point line they will give him 3 free throws. If he makes the 3 points and gets fouled he will be rewarded with 1 free throw.

Applying the rules
- In basketball the referee will blow the whistle if he identifies that there is to much contact. he will blow his whistle and stop the game. Giving the player a personal foul and a team foul.
- Another way a referee can stop a game is by a player talking inappropriately to the referee making the referee give the certain player a technical foul. Giving the opposite team to shoot a free throw and then continue from the side-line
- when a player is dribbling the ball and passes the half-court. If the player gets pressured by the opponent and steps over the half-court line. The referee will blow his whistle stop the game and call a back court violation. making him give the ball to the other team.
- When a player is on a fast break and is attempting to dunk. He takes more then 2 steps. For example the player takes 3 steps, and the referee sees the steps. He will blow his whistle stop the game and call a traveling. Giving the ball to the opposite team to carry on the game.
competitive situation/ conditional practice
Full video of conditional Practice
In this clip i have used my reaction timing and strength to hustle the ball from the opponent. when i garb the ball, i instantly change my direction facing the basket and start to accelerate. as the opponent try’s to grab the ball from me, i use my co-ordination to do a skill move ( around the back) to switch direction and switch and so its easier from me to keep the ball away from me. As i drive to the rim aggressively i quickly switch hands so i finish the lay-up knowing i will get the point. my tactic was to ge aggressive during the play so i can score a point for are team.
conditional practice
in this video we are practising are passing which is the one hand pass. as you can see by the video i have to throw the ball to the person opposite me. firstly as i receive the ball from the person opposite me i use both of my hands to grab the ball, this allows me to catch the ball successfully without dropping it. however if i drop the ball this can lead me to a turnover in a match if i’m not fast enough to grab it back to my self.
moving on as i catch the ball, i now throw the ball to the person opposite me. to throw the ball effectively and successfully. i have to use my muscular strength and my accuracy to make sure the ball is throw toward him and his hands.

strengths:
To review my performance in basketball, i will have to include that I came out playing aggressively at the start, this then gives the whole team an aggressive attitude as I start the attack aggressively.by doing this, it lead the other team becoming more frustrated if the whole team tries to defend are aggressive attack. However focusing on one player like me, I played aggressively, making my opponent try really hard to get the ball of me, however because becoming aggressive at the start it lead them becoming screed of the attack and giving me an easy basket. Also being confident in handling the ball, this led me in doing my crossovers, behind the back moves becoming successful because of the confidence I had in me and also the amount of times I practise to successfully keep the ball in my hands to get way from my opponent by using a crossover, behind the back and also a spin dribble. Moving on to my strengths, at the beginning of the clip when i was versing only one opponent, i used my strength and speed to grab the ball from him as he touches the ball first, however, before that i used my reaction, which led me in reacting when I should grab the ball from the mid point of the court.
My other strength is that i am really relentless with the ball, meaning i can take contact while going for a lay-up to convert the 2 points, this gives me an advantage over the other player that is trying to defend me, however because he is trying to defend me while I have the ball, because he might not stop me, it gives me a chance to score the points because I’m stronger then him. Also if he doesn’t stop me he can become frustrated an foul me, and leading me in to scoring the point and converting an ‘AND 1’. another strengthen is my court vision, being able to identify who is free on the court delivering them a long pass. this mean that I will create an opportunity for another player on my team, giving them a chance to score a basket, gaining me an assist. making my overall performance status become better.
last strength is that i was able to rebound the ball a lot, meaning that by grabbing the rebound, this then allows me to make an opposition such as a long bass or a one man fast break. by doing this it makes me have a momentum of becoming an offensive playing leading a fast break with aggression to penetrate the offensive attack.
Areas need to improve:
now on talking about the areas to improve my basketball game is that, firstly i need to work on my shooting consistency, this is because as i shoot a jump shot i missed all of them in the video, this is why i had to use my strength to finish a lay-up.
To improve my shooting i would have to train by setting up drills, such as off the dribble shooting and catch and shoot drills, I will need to move in differently places to become comfortable from where I am shooting from, I will need to set up 5 places from the perimeter of the 3 point line and the inside of the three point line, so I could improve my mid-rage and three-point range. Another way i could improve my shooting is by training on my range. For example shooting 2 steps from the 3 point line, training 4 times a week will enable me to gain this skills is i train everyday 4 times a week. By this happening my weaknesses will turn in to strengths. This then will lead me in having an advantage over some players.
